Underage Gambling Policy
Parents, guardians and carers: this page is for you, and for any adult player who shares a home or a device with young people. It applies to every visit to British Columbia Casino, whatever the device, whatever the hour.
Adults only. No exceptions. No second chances for a fake age.
1. 19+ only
Under 19? These lights are not for you.
In British Columbia, you must be 19 to gamble legally, and our doors open at 19 too. Under 19 means no sign-up, no deposits, no bets, no bonuses and no free spins. We welcome players only where local law says yes, and we stick to Canadian requirements on identity checks, proof of age and the fight against money laundering.
We market our services to adults alone. Promotions, images and messages are not created to attract young people, and we do not place advertising where we know the audience is mostly under age.
2. If we find a minor
We act fast and we do not bend.
If we find out an account belongs to a person under 19, here is what happens:
- We close the account immediately and block all access.
- All bets placed are cancelled and any winnings are forfeited.
- Law permitting, your money heads back to the same payment method it came from.
- We search for linked accounts and shut those too.
- If an adult knowingly helped, for example by handing over their own login or card, that adult's account is shut as well.
- If the law requires it, we pass information to the relevant authorities.
Think a young person is using an account with us? Email us with whatever detail you have, such as a username, an email address or the payment method used. We look into every tip and keep the source confidential.
3. How we check age
Checks first. Deposits second.
- At sign-up: each player must enter a date of birth, and registration cannot be completed by anyone under 19.
- Before any deposit: we verify your name, date of birth and address electronically against trusted data sources, and also confirm your location.
- Documents when needed: if the electronic check cannot confirm age, we request photo identification issued by a government before the account can go further.
- Name matching: the name on the ID must match the name on the payment method.
- Later checks: if there is any sign that a younger person is playing, we may repeat our checks at any point and suspend the account until they are finished.
More on how these checks work sits in our KYC & AML Policy.
4. Parental controls and filtering tools
We guard our door. You can guard yours too.
- Device controls: phones, tablets, computers and game consoles come with built-in parental settings that can limit apps and web content by age and require approval before anything is downloaded.
- Home network filters: many routers allow you to block gambling categories on all devices connected to your Wi-Fi.
- Blocking software: Gamban / GamBlock and BetGuard block gambling sites and apps on the devices where they are installed.
- App store passwords: require a password or approval for every purchase and download.
- Conversation: explain to young people how gambling works and why the house always keeps an edge. Filters are useful, and so is knowing the odds.
5. Shared devices and protecting minors
One screen, many hands. Close every session.
- When you finish playing, log out every time instead of just closing the tab.
- Never let your browser or app store your casino password.
- Set up separate user profiles so each person has their own space.
- Set a screen lock, such as a fingerprint, face unlock, PIN or pattern.
- Keep payment cards, Interac details and e-wallet sign-in credentials somewhere minors are unable to access.
- Do not leave a game running on a device a child might pick up.
- Check your statements for deposits you do not recognise.
Allowing anyone under 19 into your account breaks our Terms of Use, and your account will be shut along with theirs.
